This manual covers all truck-mounted snowplows manufactured by BOSS Snowplow. It includes information on Power-V and Straight Blade snowplows, including recommended push beam heights, mounting and removal instructions, controller operation, maintenance, storage, and plowing practices.

Preventive Maintenance Schedule

Monthly:

  • Apply dielectric grease to control harness and power/ground cable connectors

Annual:

  • Change snowplow hydraulic fluid using BOSS High Performance Hydraulic Fluid

Daily:

  • Inspect all fasteners, pins, retainers, nuts and bolts for tightness
  • Inspect all hydraulic lines and connections for wear and leakage
  • Inspect hydraulic cylinders for leakage, rods for rust or pitting
  • Inspect cutting edge wear
  • Inspect plow shoe wear

  • Power-V High-Performance Cutting Edges: Provides extended wear compared to traditional cutting edges. Includes built-in snow catcher and curb guard. (Part Number: Various part numbers listed)
  • Power-V Curb Guard: Protects the edge of the plow against wear. (Part Number: Various part numbers listed)
  • Straight Blade Curb Guard: Protects the edge of the plow against wear. (Part Number: Various part numbers listed)
  • Urethane Edge Kits: Replacement urethane cutting edges for Straight Blade plows. (Part Number: Various part numbers listed)

Troubleshooting

  • Pump motor does not run:
    • Check power/ground cables and control cables are connected properly
    • Check for voltage at pump motor
    • Check for power to the solenoid
    • Check for voltage to the controller
  • Plow will not lower:
    • Check flow control valve
    • Check wiring on valve block
    • Check for voltage to solenoid valve
    • Check power to control box
  • Plow will not raise or raises slowly:
    • Check hydraulic fluid level
    • Check power/ground cables and control cables
    • Check wiring on valve block
    • Load test battery
    • Check pressure at pump pressure port
    • Check lift solenoid valve
    • Check lower solenoid valve
  • Wings drift back when extended:
    • Check wing return solenoid valve
    • Check pressure relief valve
  • Plow lights are dim, will not come on or flicker:
    • Check electrical connections
    • Check headlight adapter wires
    • Check relays for corrosion and function
